At SkunkWorks, we believe in creating the best environment we can for our students, faculty and staff. At every workshop, class or rehearsal, we strive to build a safe zone where all students are free from judgement, bullying and any other inappropriate behavior.
As faculty, we will never yell or demean a student, and we hold our students to the highest of standards whether long-term or for the workshop only. While a lot of fun, we consider our programming pre-professional, and nourishing a safe environment for our students to grow and learn is our first priority.
We understand that as a young dancer hard days do occur resulting in unusual and/or poor behavior; therefore instead of yelling or participating in harmful disciplinary measures we employ the "3 Strike Method" which allows for the student to assess his or her behavior, make changes and cool off for a bit. A SkunkWorks representative is available to students throughout the workshop to problem solve and help to refocus. The "3 Strike Method" is as follows:
1. Teacher issues warning to child and relays warning to SkunkWorks onsite representative.
2. If behavioral issues continue, teacher issues a second warning and student is removed from class by SkunkWorks onsite representative. Student will not be allowed to return until the next class.
3. If student is given a third warning after returning to the new class, SkunkWorks representative will escort the student out of class and a guardian will be called. Student will not be allowed to return to workshop for the remainder of that day.
Our behavioral expectations will be explained at the beginning of the workshop for all of our participating students, but we HIGHLY encourage you to discuss our expectations prior to the workshop with your child.
